Learn to get comfortable drawing what you’re interested in! This is a judgement-free zone when it comes to ability. The instructor, Sarahjane, is the owner of Bay-Made and an illustrator, herself. She has a BFA in Visual Development for Animation, and has worked on a wide breadth of projects, from mobile games and concept art for film and television, to national park visitor center exhibits, consumer products, and much more. You can check out her work here.
In this ~1.5 hour class, we don’t exactly have a curriculum, but instead Sarahjane will work with each student (small class size, capped at 6, masks and vaccines required) to get them started in the direction of drawing they so choose. While the basics of drawing from life and observational drawing will be covered, if a student wants to learn to draw faces or bodies better, we will help them with that. If a student wants to try cartooning, we can point them in the right direction. Botanicals, characters, and animals? Those are Sarahjane’s specialties!
The aim of this class is to build confidence, so that each student leaves with an understanding of how to take their work and interests to their next level! Art is often mystifying and hand-wavy, but Sarahjane believes it can be broken down into bite-sized pieces like any craft or skill, so that even someone “that can’t draw a stick figure” can learn to draw.
This class is not sequential and isn’t part of a series, but students are welcome to take the class more than once if they would like additional help with their creative pursuits.
Instead of past drawing classes hosted here, students may either bring their own sketchbook and tools, or purchase tools and sketchbooks (or anything else) before class at Bay-Made with a 10% discount.
